germany, day one

I'm back! Time to recap Germany, or else I will never write these posts! Plus, I'm home re-adapting to CST, so what better time to write?

Let's start at the very beginning, a very good place to start... (Name that tune.)

So the original plan was for me to fly out of Minneapolis on Monday afternoon. Long story short, my flight into NY was delayed to the point that I would have missed my connection to Germany and so I ended up flying out the next day, effectively losing one full day of travel.

I got into Munich on Wednesday morning and waited for my mom and sister to take a train from where we were staying to pick me up. By this point I had been awake for nearly 24 hours and was not the best version of myself. I was puffy, covered plane germs, and really, really, tired.

rehydrating
My mood improved after some food and a beer, which is literally cheaper than water in Germany. (Tap water is kind of a foreign concept, no pun intended.)

weisswurst, my favorite meal
After eating, we started the long train ride (with four transfers) back to our apartment in Garmisch. I kept falling asleep between stops but I did manage to take a few pictures during the ride, though this is the only one that doesn't have a glare from the train window.

I found the apartment via Airbnb and it was actually in a house owned by an American that had been living in Germany for the last 40 years. It was really nice to have an English-speaking resource right downstairs from us, and he was wonderful about helping us find our way.

he also had an amazing garden. there were flowers everywhere!

Anyway, once we got there, we all took a nap, then got up and went to dinner. Every corner held some sort of opportunity for a photo op.

We started back to the apartment just as the sun was setting. I loved the moon (very tiny) and the view of the church in this photo.

You can see a few more photos from our first day in this post (lederhosen!), and read the abridged version  of what we did Day 2.

Back with more soon!
